almost a year since my last post

and what a year it has been. tristan and i moved to san antonio in september, and i got a job and he went to daycare for the first time in october. he loves being around kids and going to his "apple school" (i work at la petite academy, and they have an apple logo). hes grown so much, its amazing. lets see.... hes 32 months as of june first. he was hardly talking on his second birthday(maybe 10-15 words and 25 or so signs) and still on thanksgiving,but by about new years he figured it out, and now hes never quiet. he know most of his letters by sight and loves pointing them out. the first letter he learned was "e" shortly after we got here.... we live near an heb. he "reads" signs every where we go. hes also beginnning to learn the letter sounds as well. he can count to 11 by himself, and to about 20 or so with a little help. he knows all of his basic colors and shapes too. he loves music, and has recently started singing to himself. we got so many smiles at target last week when he was singing twinkle twinkle little star through the aisles. he said his first spanish word about a month ago... funny the one he chose, but not surprising considering ths spanish speaking girls at the center. he came up to me with a hairband on his wrist and said "look mama, my chongo"... so cute. hes a very social little boy, but still shy at times. hes still nursing once or twice a day, and still rear facing in his carseat (did you know its 500% safer for a toddler to rearface? ask me if you want more info.). my original goal for both of those things was 2, so we met and passed it. hes still cosleeping, but has a bed in my room as well. about half the time he starts out in his bed, and about 3/4 of that he stays there all night. hes getting very independant, but still wants mama too. hes trying to figure out going to sleep on his own (i lay down with him) and he'll say "go away mama, go away!" then 10 minutes or so later, he'll call me back. im all for him growing up at his own pace, so if baby steps are what he needs, thats what he'll get. he's only little once, and im enjoying it while i can. he loves reading and listening to music and playing with his trains. we go to the library on saturdays, and he plays on the kids computer there as well. we signed up for the summer reading program last week. we go to the park when we're done and he loves being outside. we just brought this http://www.littletikes.com/toys/8-in-1-adjustable-playground.aspx home from work last week because they were getting rid of it, and hes in heaven. we've got a little back yard garden going, and hes a big helper. he enjoys watering, and helping me pick the veggies when theyre ready.

much needed update

i will be working on a very needed update throughout the day.

tristan is almost 22 months now, and very nearly potty trained. im excited and proud, and also sad at the same time. partly because my baby is getting so big, and partly because it means i cant use my super cute cloth diapers anymore, lol.

hes very into pretend play lately, and he takes a doll or stuffed animal almost everywhere we go. he shares his food and cup and binky with them, helps them play and loves on them all the time. just a minute ago he had 3 rubber ducks on his rocking horse going for a ride. when i start uploading, i have the cutest video of him "helping" his baby swim. its adorable!

tristan had his belated well baby appointment a couple of weeks ago. he was 24 lbs, 4.5 oz, 32 1/4 inches tall, and has a big fat 19 inch head, lol

so we have this rhyming book about monsters.... towards the end, its describing these 2 montsers, and it says "hearts and stripes, pinky sweet" and "spots and dots, stinky feet". when we get to that part, if hes not already sitting down, tristan stops what hes doing, sits down, and puts his toes in his mouth. then he smacks his lips and says "mmmmm".... guess he paid attention when i ate his stinky feet, lol

what a crazy month

this month has been crazy. i had my lapband surgery done on march 17th. i came down to houston around the 1st of april for what should have been a quick couple of days visit, and we've been here 3 weeks now. i ended up in the hospital for a week with acute pancreantitis that either caused or was caused by a gall bladder attack that resulted in another surgery to remove it. it was awful. more pain than id ever been in in my life. and poor tristan stayed with my mom and kelly for the whole time, and hed never been away from me for more than a few hours. they said he did pretty well though. bedtime was tough, and he didnt nap as much or as well, but all things considered, especially the lack of nursing, he did amazingly. and thankfully, when i got home, he started nursing like he hadnt stopped. i was so worried he would wean while i was gone.

while i was in the hospital, he climbed up on a chair at kellys and pulled 2 pictures off of the wall. one was of me and him, one was of him and david. while im sure he doesnt know the baby in the pictures is him (he was about a month old in them) he knew it was mama and daddy and gramma and aunt kelly said he was carrying them around hugging and kissing them. so sad, but so sweet at the same time.

ive been out of the hospital for about 2 weeks, and recovering at kellys since i couldnt drive back home alone. im feeling well enough now, im hoping to head back home soon. on a bad note, while i was here and david was at work, our dogs disappeared :( im devastated. he came home from work and the back gate was open and they were gone. i really dont think they just ran off either, unless they did and someone snagged them. we've talked to the shelters on post and in town, and they havent turned up. theyre microchipped, so if they do show up somewhere, we should get a call. tristan will be heartbroken when we get home and his dogs arent there :(

now onto tristan. his motor skills have always been great, but hes never been a big talker. at least not with recognizable words anyway, lol. while we've been here, he hit a talking growth spurt or something. he has started signing "more", "please", and "thank you" correctly. when he wants something, he signs "please" while pointing at it. if he really wants it, he alternates "please" and "thank you", lol. he has also been seen putting his hands to the mouth of a dog or cat in the "eat" sign while its eating. and for the past month at least, eat has been his favorite word. his been saying some more recognizable words too. we've heard "kitty" and "whats that", among other words.

hes running, climbing, and into everything, he's in the stage now where he likes putting everything in to a box. he found the cat carrier at kellys while i was in the hospital and has been using it to hide his toys. and unfortunatly for kellys dog connor, he hides the dog toys too. he loves to be outside, and adores going to the playground, or even a playplace at the mall or mcdonalds or something. its been awful this past week its been raining, he could hardly go outside at all. talk about cabin fever.

i dont have many pictures here with me, so when we get home, i'll do another update with pictures.

this is tristan and hayden- i call them "almost cousins" hes our godson. hes about 8 months younger than tristan, about an inch shorther, and outweighs him by 3 pounds, lol. this is the second time they've met, and the first time they were big enough to play together

ive been really bad about keeping up with the blog the last few months, and im sorry. tristan is almost 18 months, and he keeps me busy. hes 100% toddler now, running, jumping, climbing, dancing, and of course, the wonderful temper tantrums and the famous toddler "drop and dangle" when he doesnt want to walk somewhere. he has 16 teeth now, usually wears 18-24 months in clothes, and 6-7 in shoes. he loves to dance and listen to music. crayons and markers are a bit hit too. he doesnt really go for finger paints though, he doesnt like the feel of it on his hands. hes talking more now, in words we can understand. he loves to read books and build with his legos. he also like peek a boo, pat a cake, and hes starting to play ring around the rosie too.

i have been a bad bad mama when it comes to this blog. im sorry guys. a quick rundown- tristan is running, climbing, getting into things, and generally being a toddler. he'll be 15 months next week, i cant believe it. he had a fun christmas, although now the living room is a wreck. i'll get on here this weekend and update through the last few months. until then, for your viewing pleasure, here is his christmas picture

tristan is 11 months old now. he is getting so big, and learning so many new things. he is standing unassisted, and he can walk holding our hands or on to a push toy. hes trying to use a spoon now, and he can drink out of his cup like hes been doing it forever. hes also got 2 new teeth, making it 8 total. hes babbbling like crazy, and says "mama", "dada", and "da"-dog. he likes to share with us, especially his binky. he'll smile, put it in my mouth, the take it back and giggle. he loves using his toys to fill up bins and baskets then dump them out and start over again. he gives hugs and kisses, and can follow simple commands and understand questions- "bring me your binky" "come here please" "where is your cup?" stuff like that. he still only signs milk, but he understands many more- bath, more, eat, drink, water, all done, and sleep, to name a few.

i cant believe hes so big. i'll try to get some pictures soon, and post them up

well everyone, we made it to ft polk. we got housing, and we're trying to get as settled as we can before we get our stuff delivered. davids been busy painting, and tristan is having the run of the house. its a 2 story, and thankfully he hasnt discovered the stairs yet. we got a gate, but cant put it up til david gets his tools. Leesville is tiny little town, and it doesnt look like there is much to do here, but we're looking forward to driving around and seeing everything. the post is pretty nice though.

we have tons of pictures from our time in houston to post, now that the internet is up at that the house. meeting so many new people, going to the beach, lots of new stuff. i'll start getting those up soon.

8.5 months

Tristan is 8.5 months old. hes got the army crawl down pat, and can get across a room before you realize he's gone. he gets up and rocks on his hands and knees. he's started pulling himself up into a stand too. he spent the whole church service on sunday pulling up on the back of the pew. he talks up a storm. hes been saying "mama" for a while, but he figured out "dada" a couple of weeks ago, and david is thrilled. hes been getting up with him sometimes on the weekend to let me sleep, and they have breakfast and do "man stuff" before mama gets up. his top 2 teeth have cut through this week, so hes up to 4 now. hes going through his first phase of seperation anxiety, and doesnt like anyone but mama or daddy to hold him right now

we've been signing with tristan for a few months now. hes been reacting to the signs for a while, especially "milk" (you can look up signs here http://commtechlab.msu.edu/sites/aslweb/browser.htm ). Tonight when i was telling him it was time to eat, and signing "milk", david noticed his hands were making the sign. we tried again, and sure enough, when i signed "milk", so did he :)

He has also been saying "ma" or "mama"intentionally when he gets agitated. usually its just ma-ma-ma babbles, but when he wants me to get him it is purposeful.

he also loves talking on the phone, and gets excited when it rings.

he is learning so much everyday, i cant believe how much he picks up.

6 months

tristan was 6 months old yesterday. at his well baby appointment he was 15lbs 9oz and 26.5 inches long, hes getting so big :) since hes meeting all the readiness signs (sitting unassisted, no tongue thrust, can feed himself, etc) we've started dabbling with solids. we're doing more self feeding than standard purees, although we give him some. he really likes pickles, lol, and will go to town on a kosher dill. he likes bananas and applesauce too. he hasnt had much, and we're not rushing. he loves being able to feed himself.

he is sitting wonderfully now, so steady. hes not crawling yet, but hes wiggling and kicking his legs to move around, and of course, rolling all over the place. he loves the water, and were so excited to take him swimming when it warms up some.

david graduates june 25, so right now the plan is coming for a visit probably in early july while we're moving. we still dont know where we're going to be yet though. we'll take some 6 month pictures this weekend and get them posted soon

Happy easter everyone! here are some pictures, we didnt do much today. tristan and i went to church, and he stayed in the nursery for the first time. he didnt cry when i left, and when i went to get him, he was laughing in the excersaucer. that hour is the longest ive been away from him, and it felt so weird sitting through the service without him. we came home and after a nap, we gave him his basket- he got a chickie that cheeps, a peter cottontail book and the pat the bunny book. then we took pictures. later we went for chinese food since our oven is broken so i couldnt cook a real easter dinner

We did brunch with a bunny today- a bbq and an easter egg hunt. tristan couldnt really hunt, but we got him a couple of eggs to play with. he likes functions like this because he gets to play with all the girls in davids class who are so in love with him. its times like that im glad im nursing, its the only reason i get him back, lol. we put him in his easter outfit so it would get more than one wearing. isnt it adorable?

so tristan has finally discovered that there are things at the ends of his legs that he loves to kick.... yep, he found his feet. of course, it would happen while one of them is bandaged up, lol. theyre always in his hands now. we use babylegs (www.babylegs.net awesome things, i love them and recommend them for everyone. if someone you know is having a baby, buy them some! target started carrying them too now) so he cant pull the bandage off. we use them all the time, but theyre just perfect for that.
we got him his big boy carseat, a britax marathon in crocodile print (http://www.britaxusa.com/products/product_detail.aspx?ID=5 ) and he loves it. i think he is so much more comfortable in it. he just talks and laughs and plays back there. when we went to get him out of the seat last night he had both feet in his hands, lol.
he also finally figured out how to get the binky back into his mouth the right way yesterday. hes been trying, but usually just ended up chewing on the shield or handle.
he learned his "h" and "y" sounds this week too, and he just talks so much! hes shy around strangers though, and doesnt talk so much, just likes to look at them

as some of you have heard, tristan was burned thins weekend. for those who havent, here is what happened

on sunday, we decided to go to waffle house around noon, and the waitres spilt coffee on the baby we hadnt even gotton our menus, she just took our drink orders. tristan was sitting in the booth next to david, and when she brought him his coffe, she set it down in fron of the baby. she kinda let go before it hit the table and a bunch splashed out all over his foot. instant 2nd degree burns. there was skin coming off :(we got up and left for the er, we were about 10 minutes from post. they took us right back, looked at his foot, put some stuff on it (i forget what its called, lol) and wrapped it up, gave him some tylenol with codine, and called the burn unit at doctors hospital. we went there, they again looked at it, put stuff on it, and wrapped it up, and we go in for surgery the next day. its not too serious, they were going to clean it, and put a second skin type dressing on it that will stick to it and help it heal, but because its such a painful process, they do it under anesthesia.
we went back to waffle house, and david talked to the manager about having his employees be more careful, especially around babies. the manager had been there when it happened, and he said the waitress cried after we left. as we were leaving to go to the ER, david told her "thanks alot, you just caused my baby second degree burns" on the upside, the hospitals are great if it really is an emergency, we were in and out of 2 hospitals in 2.5 hours

we had the surgery today, and he was such a champ. we went in at about 730, but they didnt get him into surgery until about noon, there were a couple of kids before us that were burned really bad. considering he hadnt eaten since 4am he did wonderfully. got a little fussy towards the end, but mostly he was happy and playing and flirting with the nurses, lol. my boobs felt like they were going to explode though, when i finally got a chance to pump around 10, i got almost 10 ounces!!!!!!!! the surgery went well. the burns were 2nd degree like we thought, and he got a gamma graft, which is the graft with cadaver skin. the whole procedure only took a little more than an hour. when they brought him out, he was sleeping still, so i nursed him, and he woke up all happy and giggly again. we have a follow up in a week to see how its healing we arent planning to sue waffle house. we'll let tricare know what happened, so they can get them to reimburse the medical bills if thats what they want to do. when we went back to talk to the manager yesterday, he had already called their insurance to let them know what happened. it was an accident. ive let go of stuff before it was on the table too. but she shouldnt have put it down in front of the baby in the first place. i think she probably doesnt have kids, because when we were seated she asked us if tristan needed silverware, lol.... we are going to contact corporate, but not in hopes of getting money out of it. they need to have their staff be more careful, and the coffee shouldnt be that hot, and thats really what david told the manager.... we dont want the waitress fired or anything. im glad it was only his foot, and not his arms or torso or face. when we went back in to talk to the manager, we gave them our name and number now of course, if they offer a settlement, we wont say no, lol, but we're not asking for money

hes sitting

tristan is officially sitting up as of today. hes been able to sit unassisted for a few seconds for a few weeks now, but something clicked overnight last night, and now hes all of a sudden doing it great. hes still a little wobbly, of course, but my baby is sitting up by himself. i cant believe it. crawling is next, and i really dont think thats to far away. he is so big!

We got tristans 4 month pictures back today, and they are so cute!! we like the first on the best. the second one turned out a little funny, lol, but we were towards the end of the session by then.... and they tried to prop him up on a half flat football and he kept rolling off. Anyway, im getting pictures together, and im going to mail them out on tuesday. tonight or tomorrow i'll post some more we've taken recently.

4 Months!!

tristan is 4 months old. at his well baby appointment he was 14lbs and 25 inches long. he is learning so much everyday. he rcognizes mama and daddy and just grins and laughs when he sees one of us. he loves to mive his legs, and kicks when he's happy, and kicks when hes mad too. he loves peek-a-boo, and we're starting to sign with him too. he is rolling consistantly both ways now, and has started giving the sweetest slobbery kisses. he can grab things and put them in his mouth all by himself, so we have to be careful about whats within his reach. hes not crawling, but still moving. he rolls and pivots himself to get where he needs to go- usually off of his blanket on the floor,lol. he can sit for a few seconds unassited if we sit him up, and i imagine he'll be doing be himself before too long. no teeth yet, but we can see the front 2 on top moving their way down his gums, and theyre almost there. he chews on anything he can get his hands on, he loves having one of our fingers. we give him a mesh feeder full of ice and he was in heaven.

he's calling for me now, so i'll be back to post some pictures in a little while

tristan is growing up so fast, and zooming through all his milestones. he rolled from back to tummy last night, hes bringing things to his mouth, he tries to scooch when hes on his tummy, he can sit assisted with no problems, and sometimes unassisted for a second or 2. he was 24" and 13lbs 5oz on january 4. hes such a happy and laid back baby. its so much fun to just watch him figure things out. hes so interested in everything :)

tristan was 2 months old yesterday. we had his well baby check up, and he is 23 inches tall and weighs 11 lbs 4 oz. so big!!! i'll post some more pictures in the next couple of days

well, tristan is 6 weeks old already (i have no idea how that happened), and im finally starting his blog. sorry it took so long. he is so big now, at his last appointment he was 10 pounds already. he holds his head up like a champ, found his hands, and starting cooing and babbling in the past week. bath time is daddy time, and he loves it. i cant wait to take him swimming in the summer. here are some pics to start with, i'll post more in the next few days.
